Emergency Contraception
Our GPs provide this service.

Counselling
We have an in-house counsellor who is accessed by referral by one of the GP Partners.

Cervical Smears
We recommend that all women between 25 and 65 years of age should have a cervical smear every three to five years unless there is a medical reason for more frequent tests. You will be sent a reminder when your smear is due.

Child Health
All young children are offered checks at intervals to check on their children’s development, growth and physical health. A doctor will see them at 8 weeks and 8 months. Development checks at 8 months, 18-24 months and 39-48 months are carried out by the health visitor.

Minor Surgery
There are regular clinics for minor surgical procedures. These include removal of cysts, skin lumps, injection of joints and the treatment of warts.

Nurse Clinics
Asthmatics, diabetics and patients with coronary heart disease will be called into clinics at regular intervals for monitoring of their condition.
Cryotherapy Clinic
Liquid nitrogen cryosurgery is used to treat a wide range of common skin lesions, including verrucas, warts and skin tags.

Well Woman Clinic
We have a lady doctor who can offer a range of fertility and contraceptive services, including emergency contraception, coil and implant fitting. She is also able to advise and treat other gynaecological problems.

Lifestyle Clinic
Provided by one of the practice nurses, this clinic will help to support you in improvements you want to make in your diet, smoking, drinking and other lifestyle choices.

CHILDHOOD AND OTHER IMMUNISATIONS

It is very important that young children are protected against dangerous illnesses. With modern vaccines there are hardly ever any reasons not to immunise your baby fully.
8 weeks - 2 injections

Diphtheria, Tetanus, Polio, Whooping Cough, Hib & pneumococcal

12 weeks - 2 injections Diphtheria, Tetanus, Polio, Whooping Cough, Hib & Meningitis C
16 weeks - 3 injections Diphtheria, Tetanus, Polio, Whooping Cough, Hib, Meningitis C & pneumococcal
1 year - 1 injection Meningitis C & Hib

Meningitis C - given to pre-school children - you will be notified by post.

Immunisation clinics are run by our practice nurses and we will always try and be flexible to fit in with school hours.
On occasion, children may experience a rise in temperature after immunisation, normally within 48 hours. After MMR it may be up to 6-11 days later. If you are concerned about your child, we will be pleased to advise you.

Tetanus and Polio - After booster at 13-18, one further dose is needed 10 years later.

Hepatitis B - Recommended for groups at special risk (eg health care workers). Your employers should provide this through their occupational health scheme.

Flu Vaccine - Available each year for high risk groups (eg asthmatics, diabetics, and those over 65).

Travel Vaccinations - The nurse will advise you on what is required and any cost involved.

Pneumococcus Vaccine - Available once every 10 years for over 65s.

If you have any doubts about any of the immunisations please speak to either your doctor or one of our health visitors.
